Swiss Federal Institute for Materials Science and Technology

Empa is a materials science and technology research institution. It belongs to the ETH domain and as such is an important element in education, science and innovation in Switzerland. It specializes in applications, focused research and development, and provides high-level services in the field of sustainable materials science and technology. Its core tasks are innovative collaboration with industry and public institutions, ensuring the safety of people and the environment, knowledge propagation and university-level teaching. EMPA has gained a large experience in coupling a GD source to a TOF instrument through a national project highlighting the importance of the approach.

Research interest and role in the project : Conception of the ion interface and participation in the lamp design. A test unit is available at EMPA enabling informed participation in the assembly of the developed items. Provision of analytical testing with emphasis on biocompatible materials. Integration of different researchers within the project.
